Rescue Call Goes Nowhere in Eaton Canyon

Two men called 911 Sunday night saying they were lost in Eaton Canyon, but rescuers were unable to find them.

Two men describing themselves as lost hikers called 911 asking to be rescued Sunday night, but rescuers were unable to locate them according to Lt. Joe Dempsey of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Altadena Station.

The caller, who called himself "Claude," told rescuers he and a friend were lost in the area. The dispatcher lost contact with him and was unable to reconnect, according to Dempsey.

The call came in at 8:35 p.m. and search and rescue teams looked for the pair until after 10 p.m, said Dempsey, who wrote in an email that the situation was "possibly a prank call."
