Secret Service Investigates Suspected Counterfeiters in Monrovia on Black Friday

Two women were arrested after allegedly spending counterfeit $100 bills at two local stores during the shopping rush on Black Friday.

The Secret Service joined the investigation into counterfeit $100 bills that two women allegedly tried to spend on toys and clothes at two local stores on Black Friday.

The women are suspected of spending the counterfeit bills on merchandise at and attempting to use them at before they were apprehended after 10 a.m. Friday, Monrovia Police Lt. Nels Ortlund said.

Ortlund said the store manager at Kohl's alerted police after witnessing the women behaving suspiciously. One was detained inside the store, and the other was arrested by police outside, Ortlund said.

"The bills were confirmed to be counterfeit," he said.

The women were identified as Lisa Davis, 44, and Krystal McCormick, 29, both of Winnetka, according to City News Service. They had a total of nine phony bills, police told the news agency.

Ortlund said agents from the Secret Service interviewed the women at the Monrovia Police station Friday afternoon. The Secret Service always handles investigations into counterfeit currency, he said.

"The Secret Service is obviously interested in chasing down the source of these things," Ortlund said.
