Short Pursuit on 210 Freeway Ends in Meth Arrests

Arcadia Police arrested two Monrovia residents Thursday afternoon.

Arcadia Police arrested two Monrovia residents who allegedly were in possession of methamphetamine after a short pursuit on the 210 Freeway Thursday.

At about 2:40 p.m. Thursday, detectives with the APD were picking up lunch in the area of Huntington Drive and Fifth Avenue when they saw what they thought was a narcotics transaction take place, according to Sgt. Tom Le Veque of the .

Le Veque said the male driver of the vehicle took off at a high-rate of speed and the detectives pursued the suspects eastbound on the 210 Freeway.

The male suspect exited the 210, going south at Mountain Avenue and abandoning the vehicle in the parking lot of the at 1625 Mountain Avenue in Monrovia, authorities said.

The male suspect fled on foot through Home Depot and jumped one of the store's back walls before two officers apprehended the suspect on Duarte Road near , according to police.

Police identified the male suspect as Heston Hughes, 28 of Monrovia. Hughes was arrested on suspicion of felony evading and possession of methamphetamine, Le Veque said.

The female suspect, who police identified as Fabiola Guizar-Ruvalcaba, 37 of Monrovia, was detained by police inside the vehicle and arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, according to authorities.

Police said they recovered methamphetamine allegedly thrown out of the vehicle by the suspects. Methamphetamine was also found inside the suspect vehicle after the traffic stop, according to police.

Both suspects were booked at Arcadia City Jail, Le Veque said. Hughes was later transferred to county jail for medical issues, according to authorities.

"Any pursuit is a serious thing, but no one got hurt and it ended up as kind of almost a routine thing for us," Le Veque said.

The Monrovia Police Department assisted on the arrests.
