Teen Cyclist Suffers 'Extensive' Injuries in Collision With Motorist

The cyclist was hospitalized following the crash, which took place on Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia.

A 16-year-old boy biking on Santa Anita Avenue in Arcadia was struck by a car just before 10 p.m., police said.

The teen was struck by a motorist and suffered "pretty extensive" injuries. The teen was rushed to Huntington Memorial Trauma Center. It was not immediately known what caused the collision, said Lieutenant Mike Castro of Arcadia Police.

The bicyclist injured in a collision Saturday night was attempting to make a turn while traveling southbound on Santa Anita Avenue.

The teen was in the No. 1 left turn lane attempting to turn onto Duarte Road. The bicyclist did not complete the turn and pulled out in front of a vehicle traveling in the same lane. The vehicle struck the bicyclist, according to Arcadia Police in a press release.

The Arcadia teen suffered head injuries in the accident. The 26-year-old Arcadia resident behind the wheel of the vehicle was not injured.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, referring work to the department's Major Accident Investigation Team, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call Arcadia Police at (626) 574-5150.
