Three Missing Hikers in Angeles National Forest Found Thursday

Three hikers missing in the Angeles National Forest above Sierra Madre were found early today, police said.

Sierra Madre police Sgt. Ruben Enriquez said radio traffic indicated searchers had made contact with the missing hikers, all men in their 20s, just before 4 a.m.

Enriquez said police received a 911 call from one of the hikers around 9:17 p.m. Wednesday. The caller told a dispatcher the trio had hiked from the Chantry Flats picnic site and trailhead up to the Mount Wilson Observatory and had got lost coming back down.

The caller said he had separated from the other two hikers to find a better cell signal and indicated the three were not carrying extra food, water, or clothing.

The caller said they had begun their hike around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The search party included deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Temple station, and members of Sierra Madre and Montrose Search and Rescue teams.
