Original: Firefighters had to extinguish two vegetation fires caused by downed power lines that were knocked out by heavy winds Thursday morning, a fire official said.
A vegetation fire on Magnolia was extinguished before 11 a.m. Thursday as another erupted in a palm tree in the 200 block of Pomona Avenue, Monrovia Fire Chief Chris Donovan said. A total of four power lines were knocked down by the strong winds.
There have been no reports of injuries, Donovan said. Southern California Edison was on scene restoring power to the affected neighborhoods, he said.
A total of 3,542 Monrovia customers lost power as of 11:21 a.m., according to SCE's outage center.
