Woman Stops Alleged Car Burglar

Resident observes the man inside her car and followed him as he fled the scene.

A reported transient is behind bars after being caught by an observant resident who saw the suspect inside her car.

Arrested was local transient James Cox, 60, on suspicion of burglary. Cox also has a parolee hold and is being held without bail.

The incident happened before 10 p.m., Friday, in the area of Shamrock Avenue and Huntington Drive. The vehicle owner saw Cox inside her car, at which point she yelled at him, said Lieutenant Jaime Alfaro of

Cox fled the scene, but the car owner followed him until he was detained not to too far from the the scene. Officers detained Cox and reportedly found him with coins from the victim's car.

Alfaro could not stress enough on how vehicle owners should take precautions to prevent these crimes from happening to them.

"We want to educate the public in making sure they keep their vehicles locked. This type of crime is a preventable crime," Alfaro said.

Cox is scheduled to appear in Pasadena Municipal Court Tuesday, July 3.
