Wrong-Way Driver Causes Three-Car Collision in Monrovia

The collision occurred about 1:15 a.m. in the middle lane of the westbound Foothill Freeway east of Huntington Drive.

A wrong-way driver triggered a three-car collision in Monrovia today by heading eastbound on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway, causing minor injuries, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred about 1:15 a.m. in the middle lane of the westbound Foothill Freeway east of Huntington Drive, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.

"The wrong-way driver struck a dark sedan that was (then) rear-ended by another vehicle," Posada said. The 28-year-old Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, she said, noting that wrong-way collisions, unlike this one, often result in death or critical injuries.

The man was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Posada said. Another of the solo drivers did not have apparent injuries but was transported to a hospital to be examined, she said.

All lanes of the westbound Foothill Freeway were shut down for about 45 minutes while the wreckage was being cleared, she said.
