City Announces Sept. 11 Memorial Event

The memorial will be held at Fire Station 101 next month on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

announced Tuesday that the city will host a 10th anniversary 9/11 memorial event next month to honor the service of those who died in the terrorist attacks a decade ago.

The memorial will take place at Fire Station 101 at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11, 2011--the 10th anniversary of the attacks.

"This is certainly an important day in American history," Donovan told the Tuesday. "We feel it's important to pay tribute to the actions that occurred that day."

A bronze 9/11 memorial statue donated to the city will be unveiled at the event, Donovan said.

"This is really special for our community," he said.

The memorial will begin with a presentation of the colors, followed by the national anthem. Mayor Mary Ann Lutz will give a presentation. Members of the city's Youth Commission will also read a 9/11 tribute poem.
