Duarte Council Loses Bet, Must Wear 'Blinged' Monrovia Garb

The Monrovia and Duarte city councils had a friendly wager on which town would win the award for being the county's most business friendly city. Duarte lost.

Sometime soon, Duarte city council members Tzeitel Paras-Caracci, Lois Gaston, Margaret Finlay, John Fasana and Phil Reyes must dine out in a local restaurant while wearing shirts celebrating the triumph of Monrovia.

The council members lost a friendly wager to their counterparts in Monrovia over the Los Angeles Count Economic Development Corporation's "Most Business Friendly City" award. Both cities were nominated in the category of towns with populations of 60,000 or less. Monrovia .

"In the very near future, we’ll be having lunch or dinner with the City Council members of Duarte and we’ll be proud to see them wearing Monrovia T-shirts," Mayor Mary Ann Lutz said at Tuesday's regular meeting.

Duarte's mayor, Paras-Caracci, was in attendance at Tuesday's meeting on separate business, but she promised to abide by the terms of the bet.

"I’ll pick a restaurant with lots of windows," she told the council.

Paras-Caracci had just one request of Monrovia City Manager Scott Ochoa: that the shirt she's forced to wear be adorned with shiny decorations.

"I would like it 'blinged,' Mr. Ochoa," she said.
