Free Shuttle Service to Start with Mayflower Ave Closure Thursday

The sidewalks have to be closed in the construction zone of the Metro Gold Line light rail project, so a daily shuttle will be provided for pedestrians.

A free shuttle service will be provided seven days a week to help pedestrians navigate around the closure of Mayflower Avenue.

Mayflower Avenue at the railroad crossing will close Thursday as part of the construction of the Metro Gold Line light rail project. Construction will prohibit sidewalk access in the area of the closure, so the shuttle will be available to help pedestrians navigate around the work from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week, according to the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority.

Construction is expected to close the thoroughfare until early December, officials said.

Crews will be making improvements to the crossing as part of the 11.5-mile Metro Gold Line light rail project.. The work on the grade crossing will require the street to be closed for around two months.

The Mayflower closure to through traffic will be between Evergreen Avenue and Duarte Road. Detours will be in effect.

Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with occasional longer work hours or construction on Sundays and/or at night may take place, officials said.

The construction authority provided the following tips on what to expect:

-        During the closure of the street and sidewalks, a detour route will be implemented and signage will be posted to direct motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
