Gold Line Board Gets Support from SGV Legislators

The group of lawmakers sent a letter to the state Attorney General Kamala Harris asking her to quash a lawsuit against the Gold Line board.

A group of state lawmakers from the San Gabriel Valley has sent a letter to the California Attorney General asking that she disregard by a Monrovia property owner.

The caucus representing seven state lawmakers wrote in support of the Gold Line Construction Authority Board of Directors after a lawsuit claimed that board members could not legally serve on the body while simultaneously holding other elective offices.

The letter noted that an effort is underway to add that would allow members to stay on the board while also serving on local city councils.

"We believe the clarifying language...will remove any uncertainty concerning the application of (state law) to both existing and future Gold Line board members," the letter from the San Gabrielf Valley Legislative Caucus states.

The caucus is made up of State Senators Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), Carol Liu (D-La Canada Flintridge), and Ed Hernandez (D-La Puente) and Assembly Members Norma Torres (D-Chino), Mike Eng (D-Alhambra), Roger Hernandez (D-West Covina) and Curt Hagman (R-Chino Hills).

Brokate has and the city of Monrovia in an effort to block a Gold Line maintenance yard project that could lead to his land being condemned.

Monrovia to selling about 14 acres of land to the GLCA to be used for the maintenance yard facility. Brokate's land, which sits adjacent to the city's, could be seized via eminent domain if he does not agree to sell.
