Gold Line Construction to Shut Down Street for Six Weeks

Gold Line construction will close Dalton Avenue in Azusa for six weeks, according to officials.

Gold Line construction will close Dalton Avenue in Azusa for up to six weeks, according to the Gold Line Construction Authority.

The closure on Dalton Avenue at the railroad corridor between 9th Street and Foothill Blvd, is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb. 18 and continue to the end of March. The road will remain closed through the duration of construction, 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Construction hours are 7 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Crews will work on grade crossing improvements for the 11.5 mile extension project, expected to make its way to the Azusa/Glendora border in 2015.

The sidewalk will also be closed to pedestrians during construction.

There will be a detour route during the closure, with signs posted along the streets. The Azusa City Library, Azusa Senior Center and local businesses will remain open.

Motorists are advised to expect delays.

Doug Tessitor, chair of the Metro Gold Line Construction Authority, urged the public to remain patient during current and pending street closures.

“It is a minor inconvenience to what is going to be wonderful addition to the San Gabriel Valley,” he said.

Monrovia settled a lawsuit this week that will enable the city to move forward with its Station Square Transit Village, a residential and commercial development that will be built along the coming Gold Line Foothill Extension.

The closures can be a pain, but they can be exciting, too. They impede the flow of traffic, but they are a sign of the progress to come for the long haul.
