Long-Term Closure of Mayflower Ave at Railroad Crossing Starts Sept. 26

Mayflower Ave to close for two months for Gold Line construction.

Mayflower Avenue at the railroad crossing will close from Sept. 26 to early December, according to the Metro Gold Line Foothill
Extension Construction Authority.

Crews will be making improvements to the crossing as part of the 11.5-mile Metro Gold Line light rail project, according to a news release. The work on the grade crossing will require the street to be closed for around two months.

The Mayflower closure to through traffic will be between Evergreen Avenue and Duarte Road. Detours will be in effect.

Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with occasional longer work hours or construction on Sundays and/or at night may take place, officials said.

The construction authority provided the following tips on what to expect:

-        During the closure of the street and sidewalks, a detour route will be implemented and signage will be posted to direct motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

-        A free pedestrian shuttle service will be available adjacent to the construction area during daytime hours to assist pedestrians around the closure. Shuttle stops will be on either side of the tracks and signage will be posted with the hours of operation.      

-        All businesses, including those located on Mayflower Ave, will remain open and accessible during construction.

-        Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
