Mayor Lutz Honored by NAACP

The Pasadena chapter of the NAACP gave Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz an award last week for improving the life of her community.

The NAACP Pasadena Branch honored Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz last week with an award recognizing her for helping to improve the quality of life in her community.

Honored alongside Pasadena Police Chief Phil Sanchez and Duarte Councilwoman Lois Gaston at the Pasadena Hilton on Thursday, Lutz was singled out for her inclusive approach to governance, according to the NAACP.

Pasadena NAACP President Joe Brown said in a statement that the organization "watched her transform the City of Monrovia for the better" over her 3-year tenure.

"She is the epitome of what every new incoming mayor should be about--that is inclusion at the table for everyone," Brown said in the statement.

The Pasadena NAACP Pasadena NAACP, which represents Monrovia, Pasadena, Arcadia, and Duarte, identifies people and businesses each year deserving of recognition for improving the quality of life of communities.

"I’m truly honored to be recognized by an organization that has been fighting for the past 92 years to ensure that everyone is treated with equality and fairness,” said Mayor Mary Ann Lutz in a statement. “No matter how much progress we think we’ve made through the years, it is more important than ever to remain committed to ensuring justice for all--and the NAACP has done just that for many of our San Gabriel Valley residents.”
