Mayor Lutz Resigns from Gold Line Board

She stepped down as an alternate board member after a lawsuit claimed that her position with the GLCA and others amounted to conflicts of interest.

Mayor Mary Ann Lutz resigned from the Gold Line Construction Authority board after discovering that her position as an alternate member did not technically exist, she said Friday.

Lutz and two other members stepped down following a lawsuit brought by a local property owner .

Lutz said that when her attorneys looked at the legal language that created the GLCA board, they realized that it did not allow for alternates on the board.

"It appears that the postion I had--it's questionable whether it existed or not," Lutz said.

GLCA officials have lobbied for , and Lutz said the California State Assembly is set to vote on that legislation Friday after the State Senate passed it earlier this month. She said the governor could sign the bill into law as early as Friday.

The legislation would also allow for alternates on the board, and Lutz said she anticipated being reappointed by the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments sometime in the future.

Lutz said she only acted as a voting member of the GLCA board in three meetings, receiving a $100 stipend for each. She said she plans to return the money.
