Monrovia Community Development Department's Blog Highlights 2013 Projects

A planned 154-unit apartment building at 5th and Huntington, the city's first microbrewery in Pacific Plate on South Myrtle, and several eateries from a Del Taco under construction at 945 Huntington Drive to the newly opened Smashburger, are among the projects highlighted in the city's look back at 2013.

In it's "Over the Counter Blog," the Community Development Department writes that the pace of projects picked up considerably in 2013.

"At the start of 2013, we were feeling cautiously optimistic, which is how we felt at the beginning of 2012 and 2011 only to be slightly disillusioned," staff writes. "But oh what a difference a year makes!  All those phone calls, emails, counter visits are definitely resulting in something tangible.  Finally, we can say with some surety that things are looking up."

The Planning Commission reviewed 43 entitlements in 2013, a hike of 35 percent from the previous year, according to the blog.
