The U.S. Army awarded a $248 million contract to Aerovironment and four other firms to produce unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to the military indefinitely.
Under the contract, the Monrovia company will compete to provide the Army with drones like its Raven and Puma systems, according to a news release from the company.
"This new [contract] provides for continued procurement of small UAS, reflecting the high value of this capability," said Roy Minson, AeroVironment senior vice president, in a prepared statement. "We look forward to supporting the U.S. Army and other customers with market leading small UAS solutions that anticipate the ever- evolving needs of warfighters and address the budgetary constraints of governments."
