More Than 800 People Set to Speak at Supes' Redistricting Meeting

The hearing began Tuesday morning at the Board of Supervisors hearing room at 500 West Temple Street in downtown Los Angeles and could last long into the night.

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors will either agree on a redistricting plan to redraw the county's electoral boundaries or pass the responsibility to a committee made up of officials from the Sheriff's Department, Assessor's Office and District Attorney's office.

The redistricting process has included the input of a Boundary Review Committee and one official hearing already at the Board of Supervisors, where the supervisors .

More than 800 people signed up to speak at Tuesday's meeting, which could drag on late into the night.

At previous meetings, the board narrowed the possibilities down to three separate plans.

The main disagreement plan has been over whether to more radically alter the existing boundaries to include more Latino-majority districts or to keep the districts very close to how they are already drawn.

There is no certainty about what would happen if the board does not come to an agreement, which Trequires four out of the five county supervisors to agree on one plan. That may be hard to manage considering that a 10-member commission that was hand-picked by the board, with each supervisor appointing two members, split their vote 6-4, with each side showing staunch opposition to the other side's plan.
