The unanimously approved a 3-year contract Tuesday that will pay new City Manager Laurie Lile $185,000 per year.

Mayor Mary Ann Lutz touted the contract as the first step in moving city employees toward paying the full employee portion to their retirement funds. Lile will be the first to do so under the deal, Lutz said.
"In this contract with our new city manager, she will be paying her full portion of her retirement benefits," Lutz said. "Ms. Lyle has decided that she will step up to the plate and will take this on first."
In addition to her annual salary, Lile will be eligible for a yearly bonus of up to 5 percent of her salary to be given at the council's discretion, City Attorney Craig Steele said. She will also receive healt insurance, a $450 car allowance each month and up to $5,000 in relocation costs should she move to Monrovia, the contract states.
Lile briefly addressed the council Tuesday and said she had already set up an email account with the city.
"It really is an honor to be able to accept this position and take on this new role with the city of Monrovia," she said. "I’m very anxious to hear from the residents and hear what we can do to improve the city of Monrovia."
