Obama Nominates Former Monrovia Fire Chief to Top Federal Post

Ernie Mitchell, Monrovia's former Fire Chief, was nominated for a position as the Administrator of the United States Fire Administration earlier this week.

President Barack Obama has nominated a former Monrovia fire chief for the top post in the United States Fire Administration, according to a statement issued by the White House earlier this week.

Ernest "Ernie" Mitchell Jr., who served as the chief of the from 1991 to 1998, will serve as the Administrator to the USFA if he is confirmed by a senate committee next month.

As Administrator, he would "work within the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA to help lead the nation's efforts in fire and emergency services to prevent, prepare, and respond to fire disasters," according to PublicCEO.com.

Mayor Mary Ann Lutz acknowledged the Mitchell nomination in a posting on her Facebook page.

"Congratulations to Monrovia's former Fire Chief, Ernie Mitchell!," she wrote.

Mitchell left Monrovia to become Pasadena's fire chief in 1998 where he served until he retired in 2004, PublicCEO reports.

His nomination will be considered by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which is in recess until September, according to PublicCEO.
