Photo: Satellite Snaps Picture of Mars Rover's Parachute Landing

A NASA satellite captured an image of the Mars Rover Curiosity descending to the surface of the planet on its supersonic parachute.

NASA released a satellite photograph of the Mars Rover Curiosity parachuting down to the surface of the red planet in the historic landing watched by millions Sunday night.

Local JPL scientist Jane Houston Jones shared the image on Facebook.

"Mars Recon Orbiter's HIRise camera snapped this image of Curiosity and her parachute!!!!!!!," she wrote.
