The city of Arcadia broke ground on the bridge over Santa Anita Avenue Friday. Here's a look at what it will look like.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday for the $12.5 million Gold Line bridge over Santa Anita Avenue Friday.

City residents voted in 2006 to pay for a bridge over Santa Anita Avenue so that the Gold Line will not disrupt traffic along the busy thoroughfare.

Work on the bridge will begin in May, according to Gold Line Construction Authority CEO Habib Balian.

"It will take approximately seven months to complete the extensive work necessary to lower the street in the area of the railroad crossing, as well as construct the new bridge," Balian wrote in an email. "Long-term lane closures are planned, and we appreciate everyone’s patience during this construction activity. The businesses will be open in the area, and we encourage patronage of these businesses during this very impactful period."
