Photos: Local Beauty Queen Honored by Supes, City Council

Monet Bagneris, who was recently named Miss Los Angeles County, was recognized by the county Board of Supervisors and the Monrovia City Council Tuesday.

It begins with Miss Los Angeles County, and Monet Bagneris hopes it ends with Miss America.

The Monrovia native was , a precursor for the Miss California pageant and ultimately the first step towards a shot at national recognition. Bagneris was honored by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors and the on Tuesday.

"It's an amazing honor today but it could be even more amazing in the future," said Monrovia Mayor Mary Ann Lutz in congratulating Bagneris Tuesday.

Bagneris briefly addressed the council and explained her pageant platform--"Their Life, Your Hands"--which focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles for children.

"In an age where childhood obesity has become an epidemic, and the National Institute of Health has said that one in three children is overweight or obese, it is now the time to focus our attention on improving the physical well-being of our children," Bagneris said.
