A Monrovia Public Library board member is sponsoring three orphan elephants at a wildlife preserve in Kenya on behalf of the library, the library's blog reports.

One of the elephants, Lemoyian, was rescued after he fell down a well. Another, Barsalinga, was taken in after his mother was killed by poachers.

The board member's sponsorship "allows the preserve to nurture the babies until they're able to go back into the wild to rear families of their own," according to the blog.
