Senator Huff Seeks Submissions for California State Senate Art Show

Are you an artist? Submit your piece and it could be displayed in the State Capitol building in Sacramento.

Senator Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), Monrovia’s representative in the California Senate, is taking a brief pause from wrangling with the $29 billion state budget deficit to seek submissions for the California State Senate art show.

The art show is meant to showcase and honor original art by California artists.

Huff is seeking submissions that represent the 29th Senate District, which includes Monrovia and stretches up into the Angeles National Forest and down into part of Anaheim.

“Artwork entries can include oil paintings, works on paper, weavings, wall hangings and sculpture,” said Huff in a written statement. T

One winning piece of art will be displayed in the State Capitol building in Sacramento, alongside other winning pieces from various California districts.

“There is a tremendous arts community in northern California, and if it’s on display here in Sacramento, chances are that some influential people from all over the state will see the work that’s on display,” said William Bird, a spokesman for Huff.

Huff will select the winning piece. The Senator has a background in agriculture and is a fan of nature, said Bird.

Submissions are welcome from artists of all ages. The deadline to enter is February 23, 2011.

To enter, artists can e-mail or snail mail a photograph of their artwork accompanied by a description of the work, a brief bio and a statement explaining why they feel their artwork best represents the 29th Senate District.

Photos may be emailed to tim.shaw@sen.ca.gov with the subject line California State Senate Art Show Submission. Alternatively, photos can be mailed to Senator Huff’s District Office: 20888 Amar Road, Suite 205, Walnut, CA 91789.
