Spicer To Officially Join City Council Tuesday

Larry Spicer will officially take over for Councilman Clarence Shaw on Tuesday after being appointed as a caretaker for his seat last month.

Larry Spicer will cast his first vote as a Monrovia City Council member Tuesday after he is sworn in to temporarily replace Councilman Clarence Shaw during Shaw's deployment in the armed forces.

"This is truly a blessing being able to follow in the footsteps of Bob Bartlett, Lois Gaston, Mimi Mency, and (Julian) Fisher," Spicer wrote on his Facebook page Tuesday.

Spicer will fill in for Shaw until the councilman's one-year military deployment ends, which is expected to be some time in the summer.

The council for Shaw on Dec. 21 in a 3-1 vote. Councilman Tom Adams, who called for a replacement for Shaw, voted against the appointment and because of Spicer's ties to current council members.

Spicer sat on the planning commisson before his appointment to the council, and it is unclear whether he will return to that post when Shaw gets back.
