VIDEO: Huff Criticizes May Budget Revise

The Senate Republican leader said that there are several flaws in the Gov. Jerry Brown's plan for cuts.

In this week's Capitol Comment, Senate Republican Leader Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar) gives a detailed breakdown of the Governor’s proposed May budget revision.

Huff contends that although Gov. Jerry Brown says that his budget contains $8.3 billion in proposd cuts, there are several flaws in that plan. More than half of the proposed cuts are fund shifts or special fund raids designed to bring extra money into the general fund, Huff said.

The senator points out that the Governor’s budget raids a number of special funds, including money set aside for the Off-Highway Vehicle Fund, Ratepayer Gas Surcharge Funds, Gas Excise taxes and the Harbors and Watercraft Revolving Fund. Huff believes that siphoning special funds to pay for overspending habits is no way to build trust with California voters.
