Monrovia residents can now get a visual breakdown of criminal activity throughout the city with the launch of the city's crime mapping page.
CrimeMapping.com takes the locations of crimes reported to the and plots them on a map, with each marker showing where, when and what was alleged. The site is accessible through the city's website.
The city said in a prepared statement that the service has been shown to reduce crime by increasing neighborhood awareness.
"CrimeMapping.com has proven effective in reducing crime by increasing the number of eyes and ears out there aware of local activity," the statement reads. "The department will be able to use CrimeMapping.com live at community meetings to help provide reliable crime information and encourage citizens to report offenses."
