Williams and Zucco Win Monrovia Unified School Board Seats

Four candidates ran for the two school board seats.

The Monrovia Unified School District Board of Education will welcome a newcomer and see the return of a familiar face.

Challenger Terrence Williams and incumbent Alexandra Zucco Tuesday night won the two available seats on the school board, according to unofficial election results.

Williams was the top vote-getter with 34.31 percent.  Zucco earned 28.4 percent.

Challengers Ruhiyyih Yuille and Scott Pomrehn received 22.28 percent and 15 percent of the vote respectively.

Williams, 54, is a business owner, Chamber of Commerce member, and active parent volunteer in the district. He said during the election that he hoped to bring more transparency to the school board.

"I care deeply about our community and the families who live here," he said in his candidate Q and A.  "I have dedicated years for improving our children’s lives. I now seek to play a more important role on the school board where I can utilize my passion and qualifications to better prepare our students for future success."

Zucco, 45, has been on the school board since 2009.

"Absolutely thrilled to be returning to the Monrovia School board for four more years and to welcome Terrence Williams," Zucco said. "It was a good, positive election - and although a small turnout, I am hoping for a smooth transition and that we can all move forward and get to work for the students of Monrovia, their families and our staff."

Although the votes are in, the election results won't be official for a couple of weeks. The Registrar-Recorder is expected to certify the results Nov. 25.  The Board of Supervisors is tentatively scheduled to declare the results official Nov. 26, officials said.
