Wind Watch: Monrovia Back in Business

About 10 percent of the city remained without power late Sunday night, but the city and local schools will be up and running normally Monday.

The the city's schools and main services will be back in operation Monday after a destructive windstorm wreaked havoc throughout the San Gabriel Valley last week.

Less than 10 percent of the city remained without power as of Sunday night, and Southern California Edison estimates electricity will be fully restored by Monday night, city spokesman Dan Bell said.

"They told us tomorrow night by 8 p.m.," Bell said.

In light of the , the city warned of scammers who might be taking advantage of the chaos caused by the high winds.

"Please be aware that the city of Monrovia is not endorsing or authorizing any independent contractors during the clean up effort," the city's website states. "If representatives from a company offering services say that the city has sent them as an authorized representative of the city, this is not the case."

Bell said Sunday that the city is still assessing the costs of cleaning up the damage caused by the wind and should have an estimate ready later this week.
