Citrus College to Host Youth Summer Camp

Summer activities will be available for children ages 6 to 12 years old.

With summer just around the corner, is offering one way for local youth to spend their vacation.

Boys and girls ages 6 to 12 can participate in a range of activities including capture the flag, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, football and basketball. They will also enjoy some summer movies and experience exciting day camp sessions hosted by current and former Citrus College coaches and athletes.

The four-day sessions will take place Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to  6 p.m. Campers may be dropped off at 7:30 a.m.

Session 1 will be held June 18-21; session 2, June 25-28; session 3, July 2-July 5; session 4, July 9-12; session 5, July 16-19; session 6, July 23-26; and the final session will be July 20-August 2.

“The purpose of the camp is to get kids active during the summer,” said Peter Lofthouse, Citrus College director of football operations and receivers. “Hopefully the camp will pique their interest about sports. If the campers are active and having fun, maybe they will find a sport they really like and would like to pursue.”

According to Lofthouse, the participating youth are taught by experienced coaches and counselors comprised of student athletes, who are currently active in Citrus College sports. “It’s a total group effort,” he said. He added that the goal is always to have campers interested in physical activity while emphasizing teamwork and hard work.

The cost of each session is $125 per child, or parents can choose to pay $600 for all seven sessions. All camp sessions take place at the Citrus College Field House. Space is limited, so interested parties are encouraged to register as soon as possible.

The street fair the day before had more going on than Monrovia Day. I'm 21 and even I remember backRead More when everyone used to look forward to the days long celebration, it really is a shame.

I agree Bill. Enough snippin' and tail bitin' and finger pointin'...I do find it amusing to thinkRead More what would happen if people who wanted to have a parade/carnival just made it happen. Let's make a parade and carnival, not war.
Bill C. May 20, 2013 at 05:24 pm
The reason the carnival went away was because some in power thought gangsters and some rowdyRead More elements at the carnival made the atmosphere a little to uninviting at times, that was nonsense. When they got out of hand they were kicked out or went to jail. It was ridiculous to end the carnival and to stop the parade based on financing could have been avoided if the problem of financing would have been attacked early enough. Or are people going to tell me there's not enough people in Monrovia willing to give their time, talent and money to make it happen? I grew up in town, haven't lived in Monrovia in a long time but am still one that would assist in seeing the parade and carnival return. As for the cost for police and city employees to work it maybe if they were approached and told it would have to be on a comp time basis only, not pay, they'd be willing to do so. That wouldn't result in some big unfunded liability as you're only talking about an event that's four days at most. This could happen, just takes time, effort and some willingness of people to co-operate with each other to get it done.

A California city will never prevail in a lawsuit against the STATE. All CA. cities must merge toRead More sue in mass under Federal RICO laws while we still have Federal laws. Filing alone at the State level is useless. Wake up people.
