Deborah Collins Retiring from Monrovia Unified School District

The interim superintendent will step down next month.

Interim Superintendent Deborah Collins will retire next month from the Monrovia Unified School District, Collins said Thursday.

Collins will step down on July 3, two days after newly appointed Superintendent Katherine Thorossian takes over. Thorossian was selected as the next head of administration by the school board on Wednesday.

Though several petition campaigns were started urging the board to appoint her to the permanent superintendent post, Collins said Thursday that she never officially applied for the position. She had been interested in running the district for a transition period but did not want to serve as superintendent for multiple years, she said.

Thorossian comes to Monrovia from the Glendale Unified School District, where she was the assistant superintendent.
