District To Hold Teen Suicide Workshop After Death of MHS Student

The Monrovia Unified School District is partnering with two local service organizations to put on "Teen Depression and Suicide: Signs, Symptoms, & Solutions" following the death of an MHS student in July.

The will be hosting a suicide prevention workshop Monday following the death of a student last month.

A 16-year-old MHS student was found dead in her home on July 11, according to the . A spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Coroner said at the time that the girl's death was being investigated as an apparent suicide.

A workshop titled "Teen Depression and Suicide: Signs, Symptoms, & Solutions" will be held at the on Monday and Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., according to a district flyer.

The forum, put on in partnership with the YMCA and social service agency Five Acres, is meant to "help youth recognize the signs and symptoms associated with depression and...outline practical steps that can be taken when a friend is thinking about self-harm or suicide."
