Knee Surgery Stalls Ellis McCarthy's UCLA Debut

The star defensive tackle from Monrovia High School will miss part of training camp after having arthroscopic knee surgery last week.

Standout Wildcat defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy had arthroscopic knee surgery Friday and is expected to miss the first part of training camp at UCLA, ESPN LA reported Wednesday.

The prized recruit, who before and joining the Bruins, was considered the No. 4 defensive tackle in the nation when he was recruited out of last year.

UCLA head coach said that the surgery was minor.

"It’s nothing serious, we just have to proceed with caution early in camp," he told ESPN.

McCarthy last year and was forced to miss a game.
