Monrovia Baseball Chasing Top Spot in League

The Wildcats are looking to knock off La Canada from the top spot in the Rio Hondo standings.

Monrovia High School’s baseball team will need a perfect end to the season to catch leading team La Canada in the Rio Hondo League.

That means the Wildcats, (16-4 overall, 6-3 in the league) will need a sweep of San Marino this week to pull ahead of La Canada (7-3 in the league), according to the Pasadena Star-News.

Monrovia took a 5-1 victory against San Marino on the road Wednesday, and will face the team in two more meetings at home this week.

But their biggest obstacle to overcome is The Titans’ strong pitching.

Co-head coach Brad Blackmore told the Star-News:

“We know we need both games this week. As far as I'm concerned, this one is over as of now. We did what we had to do on the road and now we're at home and facing a very good pitcher. If we're the team that I think we are, then we'll respond to that."
