Monrovia Unified School Board to Honor Wildcats Football Team, Coaches

The Monrovia Unified Board of Education Wednesday night plans to honor the Wildcats football team and its outgoing head coach Ryan Maddox.

The Wildcats finished their season with an 11-2 record and a Rio Hondo League title. The team's quest for a fourth consecutive CIF-Southern Section title came up short after a narrow 22-21 loss to Paraclete High in the Mid-Valley Division.

Also to be honored is the coaching staff, including Maddox.

Maddox resigned as head coach last week, telling the San Gabriel Valley Tribune that he plans to transition into administration.

He led the team to a 69-14 record in his six seasons at Monrovia High and to the Mid-Valley Division championship game four seasons in a row, the newspaper reported.

The team won the Rio Hondo League championship all six seasons he was head coach and three CIF championships.

“It’s something I thought about for a long time and just thought it was the right time,” Maddox told the newspaper of his decision to resign. “It’s time for me to start looking at the next step. I’m going to start applying and looking toward getting into administration."

The Monrovia Unified Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the district offices, 325 E. Huntington Drive.
