Reports: McCarthy Switches from Cal to UCLA

The Monrovia High School standout defensive tackle committed to Cal last week but apparently changed his mind.

Star Wildcats defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy last week that he would be joining the Cal Golden Bears football team. On Monday, he decided otherwise.

Multiple publications reported Monday that McCarthy has switched his commitment from Cal to UCLA.

Pasadena Star-News prep sports writer Miguel Melendez reported that McCarthy changed his mind because the Cal coach who recruited him, Tosh Lupoi, took a job at Washington.

As the Los Angeles Times noted, no college decisions are final until high school recruits like McCarthy sign on the dotted line on Feb. 1.
