Reports: McCarthy Switches from Cal to UCLA

The Monrovia High School standout defensive tackle committed to Cal last week but apparently changed his mind.

Star Wildcats defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy last week that he would be joining the Cal Golden Bears football team. On Monday, he decided otherwise.

Multiple publications reported Monday that McCarthy has switched his commitment from Cal to UCLA.

Pasadena Star-News prep sports writer Miguel Melendez reported that McCarthy changed his mind because the Cal coach who recruited him, Tosh Lupoi, took a job at Washington.

As the Los Angeles Times noted, no college decisions are final until high school recruits like McCarthy sign on the dotted line on Feb. 1.

UCLA is in a re-building period. Southern Cal can make him a Star immediately.

The object is playing time. Individuals, not teams, are drafted into the pros. No one can deny that UCLA can -and will - use him.

Whatever college McCarthy chooses will be a good school. I wish you best because you deserve the best. I will definitely be cheering for you on whatever team you choose.

Well signing day is only a few days away. He made up his mind on national TV and a week later changed it stumbling and fumbling over his next choice after the coach from Cal let him down. Good luck Ellis make your choice be the right choice for you.
