School Board Votes to Hire Search Firm for $23,000 to Find Next Superintendent

The board voted unanimously Wednesday to hire an executive search firm for nearly $23,000 to recruit candidates for the district's superintendent opening.

The school board awarded a $22,860 contract to a headhunter firm to help find a new superintendent for the Monrovia Unified School District.

The board chose Education Leadership Services, a firm based in Oakdale, CA. Each board member spoke in favor of hiring a search firm, saying a headhunter is necessary to find the best possible candidates for the superintendent job.

Board member Rob Hammond called the contract "money well spent," and his colleagues agreed.

"We want the best person in this district that we can get," Board Member Ed Gililland said.

Board Member Bryan Wong said that hiring a search firm would not disqualify anyone in the district from getting the job.

The board will first meet with ELS to discuss possible candidates in mid-April.
