Football: Ellis, Carr, Lagace, Talianco Draw Preseason Honors

San Gabriel Valley represented California watchlist for 2012 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.

A cool story for high school football fans in the area popped up on the Pasadena Star-News' preps blog Monday afternoon.

Monrovia defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy, Arcadia quarterback Myles Carr, fellow Apache Taylor Lagace and St. Francis wideout Travis Talianko were named to the California watchlist for the 2012 Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, an inaugural event in partnership with the United States Marine Corps that plans to feature 100 of the top high school seniors in the country, according the a press release. The game will be held Jan. 3, 2012 in Phoenix and was founded by JuniorRank, a company dedicated to the education, evaluation and instruction of America's next generation of student athletes.

The honor is one of many for McCarthy, the No. 6 rated prospect in the nation according to Rivals.com.

Lagace caught 42 passes for 650 yards and nine touchdowns last year for an Apaches squad that went 7-4 wand was co-champions of the Pacific Leauge. Lagace has offers from Boise State, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona and Washington, according to Rivals.com. Carr threw for 1,872 yards and 26 touchdowns last year for Arcadia.

Talianko was the primary offensive weapon on a Golden Knights squad that went 6-5 last year. Talianko finished the year with 17 touchdown catches — 12 more than St. Francis' No. 2 receiving option. Talianko also nearly totalled 1,000 receiving yards, ending up with 946 yards on 59 receptions.
