Football Star Pleads Not Guilty to Attempted Murder Charges

Derrick Johnson pleaded not guilty in a Fontana court hearing Monday.

Monrovia High School football player Derrick Johnson pleaded not guilty Monday to attempted murder and attempted robbery charges, court records show.

Johnson was arrested with another juvenile last week and that left one man injured with two gunshot wounds.

School officials have refused to comment on the case.

Johnson was assigned a public defender after entering his plea, according to Fontana Superior Court records. His next appearance is scheduled for May 3.

Johnson remains in custody in lieu of $1.4 million in bail.
