Four Minutes With Monrovia Head Coach Ryan Maddox (video)

Monrovia Patch catches up with the Wildcats football coach as the team concludes its summer practice schedule.

Monrovia wrapped up its summer practice schedule Thursday, and the Wildcats will now enjoy three weeks away from the field (they'll still be in the weight room) until fall camp begins Aug. 15.

Monrovia Patch got a chance to catch up with Wildcats head coach Ryan Maddox for about four minutes after Wednesday's practice where we discussed the team's outlook this year, his biggest takeaways from the summer and who have been the biggest revelations thus far.

One interesting note is that the quarterback position is still very much up in the air. Maddox said the Wildcats have a "heated battle" for the starting spot between junior and St. Francis transfer Blake Heyworth, who Maddox estimates to be about 6-foot-1, 185 pounds. On Wednesday's practice both QBs took snaps with the first team offense. Maddox said that the two signal callers are similar in that they both have good size and they both prefer to sit back in the pocket rather than scramble in order to make a play.

We also discussed the addition of tailback and what he brings to the team. Maddox said that Ramirez as a Nick Bueno-esque explosiveness, so that will be one thing to keep an eye on this fall.
