Dead Body Discovered Below Bridge To Nowhere

Fire fighters still working to recover body found by a hiker.

A hiker up at the Bridge to Nowhere reportedly discovered a dead body Thursday evening.

The deceased was described as a male white heavily submerged in the San Gabriel River below the bridge, in the mountains above Azusa and Glendora. The body was discovered around 5:45 p.m., according to scanner reports. Los Angeles County fire fighters, along with San Dimas Search and Rescue traversed the terrain to confirm the hikers report just after 6 p.m.

"It went out as a possible [deceased body], we sent units up there to try and locate it. We got mountain rescue rolling and confirmed they found it," said Lieutenant David Vega of the San Dimas Sheriff's Station.

Authorities will retrieve the body and a LA County Fire Department helicopter will then arrive for extraction, according to scanner reports.

Sad story, hadn't heard anything about it on the local TV News. I hope it wasn't a suicide off the bridge. I've hiked up to the Bridge to Nowhere many times over the years. Click on the following link for more info about this hike: http://hikertechnologies.com/brtonwtn.htm

I was one of the few people to discover the body at the bridge. It was such a shocking moment especially after realizing, it was a hiker who past us up about 20 minutes before the bridge. I do believe it was suicide. He was a solo hiker and was carried nothing but sunglasses on his head. I found it odd that he didn't even have proper shoes but slippers and socks. I hope there is more information about this incident. Prayers to his family.

I am a friend of the individual that jumped off the bridge. His family and us close friends cannot understand why he did this. There were no red flags and no one ever expected this. Any information that can be passed along is helpful. Him not wearing shoes? That tells us something. He was a very experienced hiker.

A friend of mine was a hiker and also saw him 10 minutes or so before he passed them all on the trail. He did have his shoes on. (I saw a picture) Very sad.

He was wearing shoes in the photo. But he didn't have anything with him. Water, backpack, things that you would need on the 2.5 hour hike (one way).

I am a family friend, the hiker you saw is a firefighter in the Pasadena area. He is a great person and great friend. He lost his wife, the love of his life, due to health complications last year. There was no indications, red flags or any warnings that he was going to take his life. Some members in his fire station looked for him that nite. All of them took the news very hard when they learned of his passing. Thanks to the hikers for finding him. I heard the guys at his fire station are planning a fire type funeral honoring him and his services to the fire department. He did every thing for his wife, helping her with her health complications. He did it with love and compassion. That is a loving husband and a true man. We all believe he just wanted to be with the one he loved the most, his wife. We are all going to miss him. Even hard typing this comment. Rest in peace brother.........rest in peace. Say hi to the wife for us.....we miss her too.
