The Monrovia City Council meeting held on Tuesday July 3, 2012 was full of some very special recognition.
Three commissioners were honored for their service to the community upon their retirement. Eric Faith and Susannah Cupp retired from the Planning Commission and
Kim Herney retired from the Community Services Commission. They are all to be given a very big THANK YOU for their service!
Next we honored Gloria Huss and Monrovia Floral for being District Small Business of the Year! Congratulations to Gloria.
Robert Whisenant was recognized for 12 years of service protecting our children as a crossing guard. Thank you Robert!
The council proclaimed June as “Parks and Recreation Month”. The council proclamation to the Department of Community Services Youth Commission recognizing that Parks and Recreation make lives and communities better, now and in the future. Thousands of children, adults and seniors benefit from the wide range of services offered by the Department of Community Services including Summer Extravaganza, Summer Concerts, Nature and Wildlife Education programs, Classes and Active Adult programs.
Next the City Council recognized Chris Shevlin, for being honored by Citrus College at its 96th Commencement Ceremony for his outstanding achievements over the past 40 years.
Last but not least was the Recognition of Joan Whitenack, Former Executive Director of the Foothill Unity Center upon her retirement, Joan, thank you for all you have done over so many years!
We then moved on to the business of Monrovia and approved the consent calendar. Two items were pulled for discussion and were ultimately approved.
The Mayor made two remaining appointments to commissions that were left from the previous meeting.
Lastly, there was lively discussion regarding a possible adjustment to Mr. Ochoa’s outstanding loan with the city. After a staff report and much discussion, it stalled in a 2 / 2 vote and no action will be taken.
