Kings & Queens return from Worlds. Monrovia Robotic's Season is a Wrap!

Kings & Queens return from the World Championships in St. Louis ending Monrovia Robotic's competition season.

Congratulations Monrovia Robotics on a great FTC season! I'm very proud of your list of accomplishments.
  • R.E.D, Kings & Queens, Suit Bots and Thavma all qualify for the LA FTC Regional Championship.
  • R.E.D. and Suit Bots both make it to the divisional finals of the LA FTC Regional Championship.
  • Kings & Queens win Inspire Award at LA FTC Regional championship and qualify for the West Super-Regional.
  • Kings & Queens qualify for the World Championships.
At the World Championships in St. Louis the Kings & Queens competed against the top 128 FTC Robotics teams in the world.  Including teams from China, Russia, South Korea and the eventual Inspire Award winner "The Bears" from Mexico City.

The competition was split into two divisions and the Kings & Queens ended up ranked 52nd in theirs. While they did not win any major awards the Kings & Queens showed that Monrovia Robotics is definitely world class.

Thank you friends and sponsors

The campaign to send the Kings & Queens to St. Louis was a huge success. When I realized that qualifying for the World Championships meant that Monrovia Robotics would need to raise over $12,000 in less then four weeks I was very concerned. But then businesses and individuals from Monrovia and beyond pitched in and amazingly we met all our fundraising goals. Wow! Thank you!

Background

In its fourth year, Monrovia Robotics from Monrovia High School is made up of four teams: R.E.D, Kings & Queens, Suit Bots and Thavma. The program competes in the Greater LA Region of the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) robotics competition. The LA Region encompasses eight Southern California counties and the state of Hawaii. In the last four years the program has grown explosively along with the LA Region. In our first year we had nine students and a single team. That year there were 22 teams in the LA Region. This year we have four teams (over 30 students) and the LA Region has almost 140 teams. Each MHS team has its own name and identity. They design, build, and compete with their own robot. Each team is lead by an adult mentor who has strong science and engineering credentials. Plus, the program is supported by a host of dedicated family, community members and sponsors who ensure the success of the program and its activities.

In addition to competing in robotics competitions Monrovia Robotics gives back to the community by hosting multiple robotics events and by conducting robotics workshops at local elementary and middle schools. This year Monrovia Robotics and Monrovia High School was the host for the LA FTC Kick Off, the Monrovia Qualifying Tournament, and the LA FTC Regional Championship.
