Two more MHS Robotics Teams Qualify for Regional Championships

RED and Thavma join the Kings & Queens and qualify for the 2014 LA Regional Championships to be held at Monrovia High School February 22nd.

This Saturday RED, Kings & Queens, Suit Bots and Thavma met up in Glendale with 20 other robotics teams to compete in Glendale's LA Regional Qualifying tournament. All four teams found success, but our shiniest star in Glendale was RED.

RED won the Finalist Alliance Award, the Judges Award and with a top 6 showing qualified for the LA Regional Championships. The Finalist Alliance Award is awarded for making it into the finals (placing 2nd) and the Judges Award is a customizable award given to the "team whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition".

The Kings & Queens who  previously qualified at the Perris Qualifying Tournament continued their strong season by bringing home the Rockwell Collins Innovate Award. "given to the team that has the most innovative and creative robot design".

Thavma's performance also earned them a slot in the LA Regional championships as Monrovia's Tournament Host .

Tournament Summary:
After the qualifying matches Thavma was the highest ranked MHS team with a record of 4 and 1. Then, during the alliance selection the quality of the MHS robotics teams was recognized by their peers and the Suit Bots were picked to be on the 2nd ranked alliance, RED were picked to the 3rd ranked alliance and Kings & Queens were picked to the 4th ranked alliance. The Suit Bots and the Kings & Queens lost in the Semifinals but RED won and advanced into the finals. Paired with an alliance partner with a broken down robot RED had their best match of the year. They scored in the autonomous period, scored in the driver controlled period and finished with a huge 85 point endgame before losing to a powerful team lead by De.Evolotion from San Diego.

Next up, this Saturday February 1st the Kings & Queens and the Suit Bots travel out of region to compete in the Las Vegas Regional Championship. While RED and Thavma stay in region and compete in the High Desert FTC Qualifying Tournament in Lancaster. Good Luck Teams!

The MHS Robotics Program is made up 32 students split up into 4 teams: RED, Suit Bots, Kings & Queens and Thavma. Each team has its own name and identity and builds, designs and competes its own robot in the First Tech Challenge .
