Foothill Unity Sends Out Turkey Plea

The local charity is expecting to feed a record amount of families this Thanksgiving and is in dire need of turkey donations.

is asking residents to donate their time and turkeys to the charity's , which is poised to be its biggest ever.

The organization has already registered 1,164 families with 1,783 children for the food giveaway, and they still have "a long way to go," said Joan Whiteneck, Foothill Unity's executive director, in an email.

The charity especially needs turkey donations.

"...We need TURKEYS big time," she wrote. "The markets have specials where they sell turkeys cheap, with a purchase. We encourage folks to buy a turkey and drop it off at our center."

Volunteers can also sign up to donate their time by visiting Foothill Unity's website.

"Thanksgiving and Christmas are even better when you have helped someone in crisis to also have a great holiday," Whiteneck wrote.
