Doesn't anyone get mad anymore? Maybe I just have more outdoor experience but no bear sticks aroundRead More when I'm truly angry at them. Ask any bear that I've found nosing around my hummingbird feeders how I treat them. Believe me, none of them have stuck around. (There are only 2 things that terrify me to absolute avoidance, elevators and homeless people. I'm definitely not a big city person. Wildlife like bears, coyotes and rattlesnakes have a limited suite of behavioral responses. Pay attention to their body language and you can just about predict what they're going to do. Give them the space they need and you stay out of trouble. No one can guess what a homeless person might do.)

And a different bear on the front page of Arcadia Patch. This is not going to end well. Did youRead More know that technically they were not here before us? Grizzly bears were here. They were all killed of by something like 1895. In 1933 some problem bears from Yosemite were relocated here. The current bears are all descendants from them. And like I have said before, over 10,000 miles of hiking, and trail running, and I have never seen a bear, lion, or Coyote in the mountains. Although Bears, and Lions do live in the mountains..and the city, I am pretty sure that almost all Coyotes live in the city. Griffith Park is the exception. The Coyotes are all through the park, up, and down. Their is also one Mountain Lion. "P-22" that was tagged, and re-released. Their goal is to find out how to best connectors, and bridge ways so that any, and all animals can freely travel from the Santa Monica, the San Gabriel's, and the Verdugo's. Eventually they plan to connect all of California. It goes on from there to include the whole country. Good, or bad? You decide.

Yes Rich, it seems a bit like having the fox watch the henhouse.

When a film is being made, it requires that both Police and Fire personnel are on duty. Extra payRead More for employees. A recent film being made, I saw only CHP on duty. Where's the benefit to our employees?

It ridicules to think that "a non-profit organization funded by production companies" willRead More have Monrovia residents best interest as a priority. While filming in Monrovia does help the local economy the right of our citizens the the quiet enjoyment of their properties should be paramount to some studio corporation making money. Farming this out will not protect the rights and properties of Monrovia citizens as well as the current city managed process. If the permitting process takes resources, charge more and/or increase the lead time on applications, don't outsource the protections our elected government is supposed to provide to some industry sponsored "non-profit".

Did you see the accident happen? Tried posting earlier but nothing posted
Jessica Weiner May 22, 2013 at 07:12 am
I know this is bizarre, but I wish there was a way to report WHY an accident happened. MostRead More accidents are because of stupid things, and in my fantasy world saying why an accident happened would be a teaching lesson, ie "The white sedan was tailgaiting so when traffic slowed he rear-ended the red car" or "the green van was going 80 when the yellow car swerved to avoid hitting the blue car that had a blow-out."

Saturday was a REALLY FUN DAY! Starting with the race/walk and the Pancakes & Pop Stars pancakeRead More breakfast, followed by some very talented young performers in the band shell at Library Park -- and to top it off, there were booths with games and goodies and rides for the kiddies! And then a birthday cake, something I don't remember ever having on Monrovia Day! That's my idea of a hometown celebration! Way to go, team!

TO that kid who was sweaty and smiling and ran the entire way to falls: Your parents were beamingRead More with pride, and you were my hero for the day. Keep up that awesome and "get it done" attitude you have. See Ellen and Danelle? It's this type of Monrovian that is our future. And the future is good. Some people do care and will show up and aren't too busy with their lives.
