TO that kid who was sweaty and smiling and ran the entire way to falls: Your parents were beamingRead More with pride, and you were my hero for the day. Keep up that awesome and "get it done" attitude you have. See Ellen and Danelle? It's this type of Monrovian that is our future. And the future is good. Some people do care and will show up and aren't too busy with their lives.

Cody will never understand the concept of relative size. Funniest dog ever.
Susan Boos May 17, 2013 at 11:01 am
I think Cody is starting to get an ego! :) Strutting his stuff on t.v. and proud to show off his warRead More wound. All that said, it is a good reminder to protect both pets and our wildlife. Thanks for sharing Brian.

Thank YOU for sharing your great photos and story, certainly a scary incident but thankfully with aRead More happy ending

No worries Nathan - I know system transition issues well. Good luck and thanks for the quick reply!

Hi Brian, the story got lost when our site transitioned to the new format along with a couple othersRead More (we can't figure out why). I alerted our tech support team and hopefully it will be restored soon. The photos will be re-posted tomorrow. Sorry about the inconvenience.

Cool pics. I am guessing the same guy that was at my place Monday night... speaking of which, NathanRead More any idea where my photos/story went? I was about to share the link with a friend and can't find it anymore. Thanks!

Volunteers should be aware that the ANFFLA requires that volunteers schedule time at the fireRead More lookout at the beginning of the season and veterans are given priority scheduling with no limit. I was a volunteer for a couple of years and was only able to get in one shift at a lookout tower. All of the rest of the weekends for the entire season were already booked by the time I was allowed to choose. Some veterans had scheduled a dozen weekends or more while newcomers were left with no open slots.

Where was it originally? There's something about moving a last-one-of-its-kind building into theRead More fire zone that kind of bothers me.

New U.S. Forest Service's Angeles National Forest headquarters. Wow, someone is making someRead More $$$$$$$$. Just waiting for the Green and White Lamborghinis to arrive. Gov at its best.

Found a young one sitting next to the front door yesterday. I picked him up with trash pickers andRead More put him in a 5-gallon bucket and took him somewhere a little safer for him and me. I think he had just eaten because even when I picked him up he did nothing but "sniff" the air with his tongue.

Take care of beautiful 2 o'clock Lou!
Gayle M. Montgomery April 1, 2013 at 03:21 pm
I'm told the young uns are the most toxic. It looked like a baby from the pic. Be careful, Ellen.

I wonder if the Station Fire contributed to the Bear invasion. It seems there is no legal and easyRead More solution, but setting Bear traps would be a start...those spring loaded huge jaws chained to a secure post. Then either taken to the local taxidermist or Bear Skin Rug shop....or hauling them hundreds of miles away. Be nice if they developed a taste for prowlers and thieves..

And Altadena early in the morning 151 A.M.Read More http://altadena.patch.com/articles/video-bear-feasts-on-home-s-bear-proof-trash-can-contents-friday-altadena-pasadena#youtube_video-13839452 When I was a kid you NEVER heard of a bear anywhere. And your cats and small dogs could be in your yard, before others decided that Coyotes should roam your streets and eat your pets because "that's nature".
Dave March 29, 2013 at 01:32 pm
I had a bear in my yard, no big deal. The owners of the property need to secure there house. We needRead More to live with nature! People do this all over our country! We should consider ourselves lucky to be this close to to these animals.
Ellen Zunino March 27, 2013 at 11:12 pm
They love ivy - which is poisonous for us. If you need your ivy trimmed, invite them in. I used toRead More think it was sooo cool to have the deer in our yard but I've met a couple of deer that, from the looks they gave me, must be Bambi's evil step-sisters. I consider myself very observant and never cease to be amazed by how they can materialize right in front of me. But, after watching them numerous times, I can't help thinking of them as long-legged rabbits.
warren hasseler March 27, 2013 at 08:15 pm
Hill street is a target for deer munchies too. After three years we just installed a front drivewayRead More gate and vinyl trellises across the rear of our property. The roses are now blooming as all of my wifes plantings. Cost: Approx. $3000.
Rockstar Robyn March 27, 2013 at 06:34 pm
It's a bush! I would much rather see deer in my front lawn than a bush! LOL

When they catch these criminals, after being locked up for a period of time, their sentence shouldRead More be to repay the total cost of the clean up, and to participate in the cleaning up of graffiti throughout the county. After which they should be required to stand along side the Goldline I-210 bridge they defaced, holding a sign stating their full name and address.

..Elizabeth C...do you think it would be SAFE to tattoo (needle will puncture) anything that masksRead More an EMPTY head...?...lol
Elizabeth C. April 6, 2013 at 07:52 am
Elizabeth C. ---- This makes me very sad to see this work of art already being marked up. EverytimeRead More I pass under this bridge I am amazed that someone thought about making this bridge a piece of art instead of a conventional bridge. Hats off to the artist and to the committee that came up with this idea. I think the installation of cameras is a great idea - that way they could have the vandals ID and send them to jail and have them on a clean up crew. Why don't we see taggers and such working with yellow jackets with "tagger"or "vandal" on the jacket and have them working the clean up on these projects or how about tatooing the graffiti artists and taggers with something ugly across their forheads?

Amazing job remodeling a local historic landmark that was almost ready to go under from the blundersRead More of the previous owner. So happy to see in under real management. From the attention you are giving to your remodeling as well as the food from following your facebook page - I can't wait until you open. And very creative use of Facebook. Its been a lot of fun to watch your progress, remodeling trials and tribulations and now your work to perfect the menu. I think you are going to do well! :-)

I love Mexican food.....and we have many choices in the Monrovia area. However, this new entryRead More better be special. Only the best will survive.
Ellen Zunino March 25, 2013 at 08:13 pm
I agree 100%. Every once and a while, no matter how careful I am, I'll crack a book's spine andRead More feel awful about it. When I need to use printed material for a research job I'm doing for someone, I'll buy the books I need and print the online material so I can make copious notes. Luckily, the material in most books, no matter how recent the publication date, is already too old to use for research.
Stephen McCarthy March 25, 2013 at 12:38 pm
For me, there is nothing worse than defacing a book. That includes dogearing pages and cracking theRead More spine. I even had a hard time using a highlighter in college texts! It's bad enough when people do it to their own books (but hey, it's their book, they can mess it up if they want) but to do it to another's or (gasp) a library book is unconscionable!
Donna Evans (Editor) March 25, 2013 at 04:26 am
This is honestly why I'm not good at "borrowing'' books. When I see a great turn of phrase, orRead More language that's just awesome, I have to scribble notes. And, um, you can only do that if it's your book :-) Sometimes, something I just read relates to something I'm writing about and need to expand on - and that's a whole other mess of arrows and asterisks.

Since, the City cannot conduct it's business like a business, of course it will need volunteers.Read More Case in point: The breach of contract issue regarding the $60,000 forgiveness of fees due the City from the operators of the Family Festival. I wonder how many life's or families in Monrovia could have benefited from a voucher for a Easter dinner? Shame on you.
Cathy McCallum March 20, 2013 at 12:47 pm
The schools are always happy to have help, too.
Suzan March 20, 2013 at 12:22 pm
I'll leave this to the City Officials to give the correct answer but, keep in mind Chris, that jobRead More requirements/preferences based on a specific business need is not discrimination.
Gayle M. Montgomery March 15, 2013 at 04:54 pm
Saw a cool meme on Facebook that said, instead of easter dye, you can use packets of Kool Aid andRead More they will adhere for the Easter Bunny just as well (except yellow; they suggest you add a little orange). Says they are cheaper and smell better.
Stephen McCarthy March 11, 2013 at 07:49 pm
Great Idea! This way, it doesn't cost the city anything, and having a piece of history like this inRead More town is wonderful.
