Congratulations to AeroVironment! They have been in the forefront of electric cars for many years.…Read More I own a Volt (from Sierra Auto Cars) and have an AeroVironment charger in my garage! Love it!
The city does have a policy to try to purchase alternative fuel vehicles whenever possible and we have been doing so for several years! Monrovia is working towards becoming a more sustainable city.
Sarah Farmer Earll May 9, 2013 at 04:13 pm
great news! glad to see Monrovia playing a part in the energy conversion from foreign oil. Maybe…Read More our city vehicles will convert from gasoline/diesel to something more sustainable, too!

Went for coffee and a muffin yesterday. Excellent! Well done Colt and family :D

Sell it to the county and have it just chill above us all summer so that our firefighters will be…Read More alerted in a timely fashion when gardeners try to be clever.
Or sell it for scrap and write itty bitty checks to 315million people. =P

@Gem City Muse : "Just like the study on gay women being fat."
They are using drones for…Read More that? LOL
Wait, wut?
rubberband April 26, 2013 at 11:51 pm
@Dan Crandell: yep. I feel like I'm being watched...I feel violated.

I enjoyed going and getting the best Rye Bread around. They were always so pleasant and accomodating…Read More too. Just call and they would set aside whatever you needed to pick up later. Thanks for all your help throughout the years. Enjoy your new pastime.

Looking for historical info on The Aztec Hotel, I found this Wiki that includes info about the…Read More architect. A good, volunteer museum intern looking for a project could pull together a small exhibit including images of the architect and his other projects for the opening. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aztec_Hotel I run a 3800 member jobs board for museum pros all over and would be willing to ask if someone might be willing to do this if asked. No guarantees.
Here is an article that covers the story of the ghosts at the Aztec Hotel. I'm thinking something on this with a note that reads Nooky Engaged at Your Own Risk might make for a laugh. http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM354D With the interest by many in hauntings, I would put a placard on the door of 120 and charge extra to stay there. http://ghoula.blogspot.com/2010/05/junes-spirits-with-spirits.html
This one makes reference to the race track, Mickey Rooney and Bing Crosby http://themotelsofroute66.com/profiles/blogs/motel-of-the-day-aztec-hotel-monrovia-ca This one recalls Jack Benny having stayed there. http://romantictraveling.com/AztecHotel.htm This one says that Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe also stayed there. http://first-thoughts.org/on/Marilyn+Monroe/Clark+Gable/

Kat J.... I was just reading the other night that many celebrities would stay at The Aztec on their…Read More runs from Palm Springs to Santa Anita. There must be some great photos *somewhere* of these movie star types at The Aztec.

Thanks Kat, great ideas. I will find someway to incorporate them somehow.

Amazing job remodeling a local historic landmark that was almost ready to go under from the blunders…Read More of the previous owner. So happy to see in under real management. From the attention you are giving to your remodeling as well as the food from following your facebook page - I can't wait until you open.
And very creative use of Facebook. Its been a lot of fun to watch your progress, remodeling trials and tribulations and now your work to perfect the menu. I think you are going to do well! :-)

I love Mexican food.....and we have many choices in the Monrovia area. However, this new entry…Read More better be special. Only the best will survive.

Im not Union or Sag. didn't get my vouchers from Chris. Grey. Please let me know if you are interested. Thank you , Olivia Pikus.

Agree with both of you! Often inconvenient for the day, but film is the gift that keeps on giving.…Read More We in Old Town not only get the interest and attention, we get on-going advertising over the years as folks see our town and our shops when they watch the shows/films -- that's advertising we could never afford out of our small budget. And the impact fee helps put on the activities we see in town and pay for the advertising. And, for sure, let's keep the business and jobs in California!
B Ulm March 12, 2013 at 03:19 am
I was pickup up some pastries at Merengue and caught the "Hooters" setup they did on the…Read More east side of Big Shrimps. There were film people scattered throughout Old Town as I drove through - so it looked like a pretty big production. Very cool - I agree with R Terry - and filming means business and jobs in California.
R Terry March 11, 2013 at 07:06 pm
I like it. Location shoots bring interest and attention to the location...Monrovia.
Dan Crandell March 25, 2013 at 12:07 am
If you're giggling you must have used that damned magnifying glass. Next time turn the night light…Read More off. You'll get clearer "enhancement" without the tickling.
Dan Crandell March 24, 2013 at 07:58 pm
I no "longer" teach but my book is now available in "hard" cover. It's geared to…Read More beginners and would be teachers. It can even be read in a dark room. The old folks version includes a small night light and a magnifying glass.

Am I missing it here? Where is this Del Taco ending up? Huntington Drive in Monrovia is a long…Read More stretch......
Jill Ramirez March 14, 2013 at 06:15 pm
I have to say just as in the discussion about Jack in the Box, It does not effect me either way.…Read More Personally I would love to see a bookstore, bowling alley, Rock Climbing, or a public pool. If you have young kids you most likely spend a lot of breaks in Arcadia, Pasadena or Duarte. However, I dont get the opponents that state the health/obesity factor. Chances are if they are that concerned they wont be eating there. But the truth is, if there is vacant businesses, that is a loss to the city. If a business (even a fast food place) wants in, that brings in not only revenue but employment opportunities as well.
Dan Crandell March 14, 2013 at 01:58 pm
@ Jill .... Please explain when and to whom does it become "counter productive"..
Gayle M. Montgomery March 14, 2013 at 11:40 am
I still have the concern about signs on the street at places I would not expect the Franchise to…Read More support.
More importantly, I clearly hope all the signs on public property are removed post election.
Jill Ramirez March 13, 2013 at 08:29 pm
I agree with you Craig.
I have to say though every store owner has the right to support a candidate…Read More just as a homeowner, it is sometimes counter productive.
Gayle M. Montgomery March 11, 2013 at 05:10 pm
Thanks, Pam. I will forever be attached to the "Beethoven" movies for the views of the…Read More Boxx Clock. I remember driving down Myrtle one morning and learning I lived in a completely different town (due to filming). I checked Onlinevacations, which talks about filming locations, but they didn' thave it this morning. http://www.onlocationvacations.com/ They have a Twitter handle and push out notices about filming. Might be a nice way to push "free advertising" when we know there is filming to be had. They're always looking for leads.
Pam Fitzpatrick March 11, 2013 at 03:59 pm
Gayle -- it's a television pilot staring Adam Goldberg, and that's all I really know. The exciting…Read More thing is when they film the pilots here and we have the possibility of an on-going ad for our town. This production company has been fair and easy to deal with so far -- let's cross our fingers and see how it all turns out! And the crews usually spend a lot of money locally, which is another plus.
Gayle M. Montgomery March 11, 2013 at 03:30 pm
Pam, we get lots of filming near my office in LA, but it's still exciting. Have you figured out…Read More what's being filmed? I know it's a pilot of some sort from the article, but I'm wondering what type of show and if there are stars we would know.
Gayle M. Montgomery March 14, 2013 at 11:36 am
Did you look at all the other pictures of the house and the property? It's pretty huge.
Sylvia Williams March 13, 2013 at 03:21 pm
Doesn't look that nice.... What's the reason for high price???
Dalilah M. March 12, 2013 at 01:32 am
Is this really the best picture you could find of this house?! For that amount of money?! No thank…Read More you!
Kristin March 13, 2013 at 01:43 am
I'm, not sure why there is a concern about 3 taco places in 1.5 miles. In a less than 3 blocks, we…Read More have McDonald's, Burger King and Jack in the Box. And the Jack in the Box is less than a mile from another Jack in the Box. And I do prefer Del Taco over Taco Bell. There are allot of good locations to put allot of good things in Monrovia. We have room for Del Taco and non food related businesses too.
Gayle M. Montgomery March 12, 2013 at 07:21 pm
If they wanted good, drive-thru Mexican food, they'd put a Pepe's in Monrovia. Good stuff.
Me, I…Read More want a shoe store like WSS Shoes or Shoe Warehouse, preferably where the Blockbuster was. No shoe stores right now in Monrovia for the masses.
rubberband April 26, 2013 at 05:18 pm
I think the Monrovia Council Members should do one. Really.
Also, MPD and the Fire Department.…Read More

I also agree with Jerry. The traffic on those streets is ridiculous, and has a lot to do with the…Read More lights!
Laura Breitel February 24, 2013 at 12:56 pm
Agree with Jerry. Also similar issue with the signal at Magnolia and Huntington. Now even worse…Read More traffic with the new Jack on the corner !!
Jerry Baker February 24, 2013 at 12:32 am
Nothing about traffic? There are so many things the City could do at little or no cost, but for…Read More decades they show no inclination to take any initiative on improving traffic flow. Monrovia still just installs traffic lights that run at completely random intervals with no regard or consideration given to nearby traffic control devices. One light's red so long that traffic backs up to the next light where nobody can go even though it's green. Then the red light goes green and no one at the other light can go because it's now red. Par for the course on Foothill or Huntington.
